This month we continue our focus on Self Leadership and the impact OVERWHELM has on your leadership, your team and the results you produce.
Why it matters?
Feeling overwhelmed as a leader is not uncommon, given the various responsibilities, decisions, and expectations you have to manage. However, it’s essential to address and manage these feelings effectively to maintain your well-being and leadership effectiveness to drive action and deliver results.
“Overwhelm is not that I have too many things on my plate, it is really that I am confused by the lack of clarity as to what I need to work on.” Tony Zampella
Leadership Strategy
As Leadership coaches what we have found is an effective practice to support ourselves and our clients who are dealing with Overwhelm is to ask two questions:
- What is my top priority right now and why?
- What is one action I can take right now to support me fulfilling my top priority?
At Awesome Journey a Leadership Practice we ask the leaders we work with (to support bring clarity to their work) is to practice “Completing Their Day”:
- Use a Capture tool/notebook to write everything down to offload your mind.
- Put all commitments and tasks in your calendar.
- Complete or provisionally complete all emails before leaving for the day.
- Review your calendar for the next 7 days to know where you need to be prepared for upcoming conversations.
- Journal key reflections of your performance from the past day.
