Building a Culture of Execution Starts with Accountability – Part 2

This month we continue our three-part series on execution and the impact holding others accountable to their word, commitments and promises has on success.

Why it matters?

Holding others accountable to their promises is essential for maintaining trust, coordinating action with others, and fostering a culture of responsibility. However, it must be done with care and respect to maintain positive relationships.

Leadership Strategy

When holding someone accountable, emphasizing the impact of their commitment supports the team’s or organization’s shared goals. For example, “Completing this report on time is crucial for meeting the client’s deadline and keeping the project on track.”

Accountability is about mutual respect, clear communication, and commitment to shared goals. This will help in eliminating right vs. wrong or good vs. bad thinking when it comes to delivering and receiving an accountability conversation. By setting clear expectations, checking-in regularly, and engaging in solution-oriented discussions, you create an environment where promises are kept, and trust is maintained and soon results will follow.

Leadership Challenge

Over the next week identify two members of your team that you will check-in with to see how they are doing at being accountable to delivering on a promise/commitment they made to you. Take a moment to acknowledge their contribution and impact to the team and organization by being accountable to their promise to you.
